Frequently Asked Questions

We’ve gathered answers to some of the most common questions about our patterns, formats, and services. Whether you’re a luthier, a student, or an enthusiast, we hope this section helps clarify everything you need to know.

Are the patterns symmetrical?

Yes, Stradline patterns are symmetrical. Original instruments have developed asymmetries over centuries due to natural aging as well as execution inconsistencies. Our patterns are based on the best-preserved sections and adapted to the original moulds and designs to ensure historical accuracy.

Are the patterns in original dimensions or altered versions?

Stradline patterns follow the original dimensions but are carefully adjusted to reverse age-related distortion and construction irregularities. These refinements are guided by original moulds and designs, resulting in patterns that reflect the intended geometry with greater clarity and usability.

What formats are the patterns available in?

Our patterns are available in DXF and PDF formats. DXF is CNC compatible, perfect for precise cutting, and fully customizable using CAD software. PDF is ready to print in A3 size with exact dimensions provided, making it ideal for reference and manual crafting.

How can I ensure my printed pattern is at the actual size?

Both the PDF and DXF files are provided at actual size and are ready to print. To help you confirm accuracy, rulers marked in centimeter increments are included along the right and bottom edges of each page. Use these rulers as a guide to verify that the printed pattern is at the correct scale.

Can the patterns be customized?

Yes, absolutely. If you would like to modify an existing pattern, rescale a model, adjust dimensions, or request a specific instrument that is not currently available, we are happy to help. Just send us a message at thestradline@gmail.com to get started.
